I offer weekend workshops in the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire, on Developing your Outdoor practice – an Introduction to Outdoor Therapy. This is a two day CPD aimed at counsellors and psychotherapists who are new to working outdoors and those who are looking to move outside the therapy room.
Working outside and incorporating nature into your practice raises a whole heap of questions, and I want to help answer them! I’ve been working outside since 2017 and now have a full time private practice, solely working outside, as well as offering supervision to nature based counsellors.
This training is face to face, and we’ll be outside for as much of the weekend as possible – prepare for a really immersive and dynamic experiential intro to ecotherapy! There’ll be lots of time for individual reflection as well as lots of group discussions, looking at research and ecotherapy theories. I’m genuinely passionate about working outside ethically, safely and professionally and understand how daunting moving outside can be. We will cover many areas, including:
- How you experience nature and the implications for your practice
- How working outdoors can enhance your therapeutic practice – and when it might not be suitable
- Choosing your outdoor space
- The practicalities (such as confidentiality, risk assessments and weather)
The 2023 introduction to outdoor therapy workshop dates are:
- 22/23 April 2023
- 3/4 June 2023
- 7/8 October 2023
We’ll be exploring the woods, paths and river banks of the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire and have plenty of space to roam, as well as an indoor base if needed! I aim to make the weekend as accessible as possible but do let me know if you’ve any specific access concerns so I can make sure that the day suits your needs as best I can.
Plenty of accommodation is available in Ironbridge or slightly further afield in Telford (full address of venue provided upon booking).
All meals are included (breakfast, lunch, snacks at breaks as well as hot drinks) and specific dietary requirements will be catered for where possible, just let me know upon booking. Arrival will be from 9am each day for breakfast, ready to start work at 9:30 and we will finish up at 4:30pm.
Of course you’ll get a CPD certificate to take home for 14 hours CPD, and the cost of the full weekend including breakfast/lunch/snacks/drinks is £250.
Feedback from a previous session: “This course exceeded my expectations…, the tutor was really engaging and inclusive. It was really good value for money and the handouts and supporting material were really professional…I would thoroughly recommend this training to anyone looking to take therapy outside.”
